Dr. Jensine Andresen Advising

Worldviews.

Advising for individuals and organizations on questions involving societal change.

The approach

A multidisciplinary reading

Most questions arrive split into parts: a technical part for the engineers, a moral part for the ethicists, and the philosophical question of meaning that is often left out entirely. I was trained in all three, and I evaluate all three when considering an issue.

Engineering

What works?

Princeton University, B.S.E. in Civil Engineering and Engineering Management Systems, with a certificate from the School of Public and International Affairs.

Ethics

What is right?

Assistant Professor, Ph.D. Program in Science, Philosophy, Religion at Boston University, where I taught bioethics and public policy regarding gene therapy, human cloning, and xenotransplantation.

Philosophy and Study of Religion

What is the nature of reality?

Harvard University, A.M. and Ph.D.; Assistant Professor, Ph.D. Program in Science, Philosophy, Religion at Boston University; Officer of Research, Associate Research Scholar, Columbia University.

The work

The future and the deep past

  • Science, ethics, and knowledge

    Paradigm change

Bohm’s Interpretation of the Quantum TheoryWhich Science?

How should we prepare for knowledge that changes the frame?

I offer a multidisciplinary approach beyond materialist reductionism, drawing on David Bohm’s ontological interpretation of quantum theory.

PositionPrepare now, paradigmatic change is unfolding.

  • Society and meaning

    ETI and UAP

Extraterrestrial EthicsMind of the Matter, Matter of the MindCartographies of Knowledge and Academic MapsExtraterrestrial Intelligence: Academic and Societal Implications

What the discovery of Extraterrestrial Intelligence (ETI), or disclosure about Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), means for society, ethics, and how we organize knowledge.

  • Bioethics and public health

    Biotechnology

Human Cloning, Genetic Engineering, and XenotransplantationHuman Cloning and Xenotransplantation

Which biotechnologies carry risks that society should refuse?

Genetic engineering, human cloning, and xenotransplantation, examined from scientific, ethical, religious, philosophical, and legal perspectives. On cloning, the decisions are complex and belong with the public. On xenotransplantation, the risk is another pandemic and the technology itself should be banned.

PositionA full, permanent, global ban on xenotransplantation.

  • Archaeology and heritage

    Ancient sites and monuments

1.77 millionsites in the Survey’s record, in stone, timber, and earth, and growing every week

What do the world’s ancient sites tell us about history, and how do we study them without reading our assumptions into them?

The Ancient Sites and Monuments Survey joins open national and regional heritage registers from dozens of countries into one openly licensed record, with a permanent ID and a source credit for every site. Its method keeps description apart from interpretation.

PositionRecord what is there before deciding what it meant. Open the Survey
